Set aside the provocative tone of the author and you will understand why having one’s skin in the game is so important in several dimensions of human existence. Things begin to go wrong when people are not hit by the negative consequences of their acts and decisions, but always benefit from the positive consequences of their acts and decisions. That is the fundamental asymmetry in real life.
